SOLVIT helps people and businesses who encounter difficulties in another EU Member State when public authorities do not apply EU legislation correctly. This article investigates the role of alternative compliance mechanisms in the EU: SOLVIT, EU-Pilot and the Internal Market Scoreboard. These mechanisms are theoretically meant as complementary and practical, cost-reducing alternatives to the EU infringement procedures and national court procedures. SOLVIT was created in 2002 by the Commission and the EU Member States (plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) for citizens who move or travel abroad and for businesses who are active across borders. It provides them with fast and pragmatic solutions to problems caused by the breach of EU law by a public authority . EU Pilot is used in appropriate cases to address potential breaches of EU law. It may lead to an issue being resolved at an informal stage or, if unsuccessful, to a formal infringement procedure.

Solvit is a voluntary on-line problem solving network in which EU Member States the EU Pilot project to accelerate and improve problem-solving for citizens.
